Simple tips to help you avoid distractions while driving

Human actions cause most car accidents, and one of the leading causes of car accidents in the U.S is distracted driving.

Distracted driving can be in the form of texting, making a phone call, eating or grooming your hair while operating a motor vehicle. Here are some tips that can help you avoid distractions while driving.

Get comfortable before hitting the road

Before setting off on your journey, it is important that you are comfortable and ready for the trip. Check out the seat settings, the side mirrors, temperature settings and the air vents and tune in to your favorite station before getting started.

Keep your phone away

Operating a cellphone while driving is dangerous. If you have a call to make, consider doing it before hitting the road. If you cannot resist the temptation of a ringing phone, be sure to put your phone on silent mode. Better still, keep your phone away from your reach so you can focus on the road.

Know your route in advance

It is not uncommon to drive to a location you are not familiar with. If you find yourself in such a situation, you are better off studying the map to get a good sense of the route before starting your trip. If you are relying on a GPS device, be sure to set the gadget and turn up its volume so you can listen rather than keep an eye on its screen for direction while driving.
